Chocolate and Conveyors: How Chocolate is Made

Chocolate is one of my favorite things in the world. I love nearly any kind of chocolate, from barely sweet to creamy white chocolate. Until recently, I never really thought about how chocolate arrives at my door. Even though I knew millions of chocolate pieces were made each day, I never thought about how it could happen. The trick to making large quantities of chocolate in any factory is, like many other factory process, conveyor belts. Without these conveyance systems, making chocolate and other candies would take much longer, and probably cost a lot more.

How Hollow Extrusions are Made

Aluminum extrusion is the process of creating unique aluminum shapes through the use of machining and metal dies. Most manufacturers choose the extrusion process over other metal forming processes because it is easier to make complex or unique shapes through the use of aluminum extrusion. The aluminum extrusion process also makes it possible to create hollow extruded aluminum shapes, which are ideal for creating unique machine parts and other hollow pieces for a variety of uses.

Hot vs. Cold Extrusions

The metal extrusion process is a popular process in the metal fabrication world because it can produce long, strong pieces of metal formed from one solid piece of metal. In both hot and cold extrusion processes, a piece of metal is pressed through a die under enormous pressure. The pressure from the die shapes the metal into the desired finished shape. The pressure and lengthening of the metal gives the metal extrusions remarkable strength, even if they are thin and narrow pieces when the process is complete. The extrusion process is used to create a variety of shapes, including the t shape aluminum extrusion, c shaped extrusions, l extrusions, and h extrusions.

The History of Precision Ball Bearings

Old wooden rollers that supported objects like how precision bearings do. Some historians would say that the invention of bearings may even possibly predate the invention of the wheel. The oldest history of bearings starts with the Egyptians and how they used roller bearings.

The Highway Crash Cushion

I’ve done my share of highway driving. From road trips to visiting my parents, I am experienced in the ways of the fast lane. Whenever I drive, I normally see a number of plastic barrels at the choke points on exit ramps. Not all exit ramps have a barricade of plastic barrels but the ones that would cause a significant damage to a vehicle and its driver do. I’ve seen more than a handful of movies where a car smashes into these barrels spewing water in its wake. To what effect I wonder do these water-filled barrels actually slowly down an out of control vehicle
