How to Make Drop Cloth Curtains
Many tarp manufacturers make other products as well, including drop cloths and other larger, more industrial pieces of fabric. While drop cloths are highly useful at protecting the floor and furniture during painting, there are also many other uses you can use for the fabric. Large drop cloths made by tarp manufacturers are inexpensive pieces of fabric that can be used to make nearly anything. With a little dye, or even without it, you can create beautiful, inexpensive curtains to cover the windows in your home. Follow these simple directions to make your own curtains:
Wash and dry 2 drop cloth panels. Iron all the creases out.
Use hem tape to attach a piece of trim to one short edge of the drop cloth.
Fold over the trimmed edge of the drop cloth so that the folded edge of the drop cloth touches your curtain rod and the bottom of the cloth just grazes the floor.
Attach the folded edge of the drop cloth to your curtain rod using ring clips. Start at the ends, and then place one clip in the center of the panel. Work your way from the edge to the center, adding one clip to the middle each time until you have clips every 10 inches or so.
And that is it! You have just completed the easiest and most inexpensive curtains in the world. If you want to make them look different or match a particular color scheme, you can dye the panels before attaching the trim or hanging. Use a dye suitable for the kind of fabric that your drop cloth is made from, which is usually a rough weave of cotton or some other sturdy material. Some drop cloths are coated with silicone or a synthetic material, so make sure you purchase a 100 percent fabric cloth if you want to dye it.
