It often happens that industrial applications can actually employee a couple different types of industrial products to get the job done well. This does not mean that both industrial products are completely alike, but both obviously have enough points in there favor to be chosen part of the time. The automotive industry in particular is constantly trying to develop new parts to contribute to new vehicle models that will then burst onto the market and make the makers lots of money. However, not all of these parts are recognized by the public. Some of them, like shaft mounted speed reducers, are newer alternatives that enable vehicles to run with a few new characteristics not notable enough to impress the general public but still impressive enough to use.
Shaft mounted speed reducers are sometimes used instead of shaft couplings, connecting two shafts on the inside of a vehicle system. One of these shafts is connected to the transmission and is a pathway for the torque that causes movement for the vehicle. The other shaft is connected to the part of the vehicle that moves, which is usually the wheels. Shaft mounted speed reducers are speed reducers that are used instead of shaft couplings for a couple reasons. First off, attaching one of these speed reducers directly onto the two shafts completely eliminates the possibility of misalignment when the vehicle is sending loads of torque to the wheels, which is something that shaft couplings are able to prevent but not completely stop. Secondly, it is significantly smaller then the shaft coupling, which is always a good thing because it weighs less and takes up less space in the automotive system. Shaft mounted speed reducers are also utilized in automatic machinery systems as well as vehicles, with the same characteristics outshining the use of shaft couplings.
