A capacitance level sensor is one of the two types of proximity level switches (the other is inductive). In general, capacitance sensors are best for detecting the level of non-metal materials and targets, while inductive sensors are best for detecting metallic materials. Capacitance sensors can also detect metal, but are often too sensitive to use in these applications.
